Winning in Minors

Henley Bridge Lessons - Winning in Minors

To win a game in a minor requires 11 tricks - not easy. A game contract in a minor is worth the same as 3NT.

In a NT contract each winning trick earns a score of 30 compared with 20 in a minor suit.

Unless you are only bidding to be competitive don’t be tempted into bidding 4 of a minor. These are the worst of all contracts. No game points and you need to win 10 tricks.

With a long minor and controls in the other suits, it is far better to bid 3NT.

With a chance for game and an unbalanced hand raise to 5 not 4. If unsure leave at the three level.
