We have raised thousands, mainly for The Trillion Trees Campaign, The Woodland Trust, Surfers against Sewage and other environmental charities. All the money raised from the Thursday Improver sessions goes to these good causes and sometimes to support our students endeavours, for example a sponsored bike ride, the local food bank, Family Action, or the campaign to repaint the signs in Henley.
As we live in Henley, we haven’t actually stayed overnight in any of the hotels but most appealing ones within walking distance are:
1. Phyllis Court - Spacious country house in a beautiful setting by the river. Very friendly, helpful service. Fitness centre, spa and swimming pool. Ample parking spaces. No e-chargers.
2. The Relais Henley - Newly launched and very stylish. Welcoming and friendly staff. Excellent breakfast.
Phyllis Court Bridge Club - The Wednesday Relaxed Session is aimed at Beginners and has a very relaxed pace. Also Monday & Friday Afternoons and Wednesday Evening Duplicate sessions.
Tuesday Wanderers - Tuesday Evenings
Henley Golf Club - Friday Afternoons
Reading Bridge Club
Hambleden Bridge Club
Wallingford Bridge Club
There is a comprehensive guide here to help with the transition from social or online bridge to Duplicate.
The English Bridge Union’s (EBU) ‘Fast Track Bridge’ book is the very latest in recommended teaching programmes from the EBU. It is the basis of the teaching and hands that we use at our bridge sessions and weekends. You can purchase it directly from them - £30 plus postage.
